Building over a sewer: Self Certification
If you’re extending your property, you’ll need to make sure you know if there are any water mains, public sewers or drains on your land. It’s a good idea to find out before you begin, so the work goes as smoothly as possible.
We’d advise all our customers to complete the self-certification form first.
This is because it is the most common method for our customers. If you meet the self-certify criteria, or can amend your plans to suit, we will award consent to you building over or near to your sewer and you will receive an approval notice via email within 3 days of your submission. Once you have this notice, you can start building.
If you complete the form and you don’t meet our criteria, then you will need to complete the full application, which is a more detailed form.
How long will it take?
Once we’ve received your submission via our online portal, we’ll aim to respond within 5 working days.
It’s worth noting that to complete the below self-certification form, you will need know the following:
- Location and route of the public sewer to your proposed build
- Size and depth of the public sewer
- Material of the public sewer
- Type of public sewer e.g. gravity fed or pumped
- Type of proposed foundations to be used
