Contractor health and safety information

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water places great emphasis on the Health and Safety of our staff and representatives, along with others who have reason to enter and work on or near our infrastructure.

Contractors wishing to access the public sewer network must first demonstrate that they have the appropriate company health and safety systems and processes in place which ensure their staff are able to safely access our networks.

We will undertake checks to ensure that the contractor is a member of one of the organisations which form part of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) endorsed, Safe Schemes in Procurement (SSIP), accreditation process. The HSE has brought together numerous existing Health and Safety accreditation bodies under the Safe Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) umbrella. Further information on this scheme and its member organisations can be found by visiting http://www.ssip.org.uk/.

This new process will ensure contractors are competent and qualified to enter the public sewerage network safely.

How the new process will work

When a sewer connection application is received, we will satisfy ourselves that the appointed contractor has the necessary SSIP Accreditation. Both the customer and their appointed contractor will receive a copy of the approval letter which will outline the next steps in the connection process.
